Geneva, 1 March 2022 – The Geneva Centre of Humanitarian Studies and InZone strongly condemn Russia’s attack on Ukraine and join the appeal launched by Swissuniversities to European governments to protect the lives and works of university students and researchers, civil society, and those of all Ukrainians.

The Centre and InZone applaud their parent institution, the University of Geneva, for coordinating with the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Scholars at Risk Network, an emergency assistance programme for Ukrainian researchers based on the model already developed for the Afghan academic world.

The Centre also fully supports its partners’ activities, the International Committee of the Red Cross and Médecins Sans Frontières, and other national and international organisations for their tireless work in meeting the increasing needs of the Ukrainian population.

In the coming weeks, the Centre will also investigate how our courses and humanitarian expertise could help humanitarian professionals respond to the crisis both in Ukraine and neighbouring countries.
