Claude Bruderlein

Claude Bruderlein is a researcher and educator specializing in complex negotiation. In 2023, he co-founded Frontline Associates, a community of practice dedicated to advancing best practices in complex negotiation and supporting the development of AI tools to assist frontline practitioners in their negotiation. Based at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and Harvard T. Chan School of Public Health, he teaches negotiation courses and leads training programs through partnerships with the Graduate Institute Executive Education Programs in Geneva and the Geneva Centre for Humanitarian Studies. Additionally, he instructs on climate negotiation at the University of Sherbrooke in Quebec, Canada.

From 2012 to 2023, Mr. Bruderlein served as Strategic Advisor to the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), focusing on negotiation practices. He also established and directed the Centre of Competence on Humanitarian Negotiation (CCHN) from 2016 to 2023, fostering a community of practice among humanitarian negotiators. His extensive humanitarian career includes operational roles with the ICRC across various regions, legal advisory positions in Geneva, and service with the United Nations as Special Advisor on Humanitarian Affairs, addressing critical issues such as humanitarian access and sanctions impact worldwide. Claude Bruderlein holds academic degrees from McGill University, the University of Geneva, and Harvard Law School, and is a member of the New York Bar Association.
