Welcome message by Alessandro Monsutti, Professor at the Department of Anthropology and Sociology, Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, President of the Board of Directors, Geneva Centre for Humanitarian Studies.

“A new director in 2019, a new name in 2020, a new Convention between the University of Geneva and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies and a renewed Board of Directors in 2021, the Geneva Centre for Humanitarian Studies continues its journey. It adapts itself to an ever-changing world while staying loyal to its core values and mission since its establishment in 1998, bringing together continuous education for practitioners from the field and critical although constructive reflection on humanitarian action past and present. It is my privilege to welcome the new members of the Board and thank them for joining our community: Alexandra Calmy, Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Geneva; Head of the HIV/AIDS Unit, University Hospital of Geneva; Barbara Dätwyler, Head of the Multilateral Division, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation; Mohini Ghai Kramer, Global Head of Learning and Development, International Committee of the Red Cross. I also take this opportunity to greet the former members who left after several years of generous commitment and those who remain on Board: Davide Rodogno, Professor at the Department of International History and Politics, Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies; Marco Sassòli, Professor of International Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Geneva; William Empson, Head of Learning and Development, Médecins Sans Frontières Switzerland.

We are looking forward to working with Karl Blanchet, Director of the Geneva Centre for Humanitarian Studies, Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Geneva, and the Centre team to respond to old and new challenges of today’s world”.
